Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Drive
Some areas of the Hluhluwe – Imfolozi Park were proclaimed as nature conservation areas way back in 1895 and are the oldest proclaimed nature reserves in Africa. The amalgamation of the proclaimed nature conservation areas with some private lands during the last 10 or so years has given all the creatures of the park a much wider range and the park can now support a larger population of most species.
One is never guaranteed of any sightings within the park, but we expect to see a wide variety of animals and birds including but not limited to the list below on our trip to the Hluhluwe – Imfolozi Park.
Lion, elephant, rhino, kudu, buffalo, hippo, rhino, zebra, a variety of antelope, a wide selection of birds including eagles and vultures as well as some baboons and monkeys.
During our time in the game reserve we will stop quite often for a drinks break or to stretch our legs, but you will need to remember to listen to the guide at all times as the animals in the park are wild and very unpredictable. We will be in an open game drive vehicle so we may need to leave in a hurry if the animals become aggressive or threatening in any way.
Our guide has a good working relationship with the rangers and they usually inform her of where the most recent sightings of lion, elephant and rhino have taken place. This and the fact that your guide knows the roads of the park very well means that your chances of seeing something exciting are much better that if you did a self drive tour of the park
This trip has 2 options; the first is an all day trip which includes Lunch@Hilltop and quite a bit more driving around the many small dirt tracks within the park. The second option is a morning only trip and you should be back in St. Lucia by about 13 H 30
Both trips start at about 05 H 00 which will allow us to enter the Nyalazi Gate at around 06H00 when they open in the morning.
Once in the park we will drive around the many dirt tracks and other roads looking for animals and hopefully see something remarkable like a lion kill or a pack of wild dogs hunting.
We will have break fast some where between 09 H 00 and 10 H 30 depending on how active the animals have been and
After breakfast we will continue driving around within the park looking for photo opportunities, and exciting sights such as Elephants in the road or warthogs in their holes.
We will also stop over at a few of the water holes and river view points to maximize our chances of seeing something really exciting.
The morning only trip will head off back to St. Lucia at around 12 H 30, and if you chose the full day trip this is the time that we will be heading for Hilltop to have lunch in a luxurious setting.
The afternoon trip will allow for more game viewing time which we hope will offer much more exciting viewing opportunities. It should be remembered that most of the animals in the park tend to rest-up and have a siesta between about 11 H 00 and 14 H 30 but unfortunately we need to be out of the park before gate closing time @ 17 H 00
Full Day = R 650.00 : Half day = R 450.00
